The fascinating world of Douro wines

Article

These wines, made with native grapes such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga França, Tinta Roriz (Aragonez), Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão, offer a unique sensory experience that reflects the character of the Douro.

Young reds dazzle with their ruby color and aromas of red fruits like raspberries and strawberries, accompanied by floral and woody notes. Ideal for pairing with pizzas, pasta, or cod, they are best enjoyed between 13º and 15ºC.

On the other hand, aged reds captivate with their deep color and complex, intense aromas that evolve over time. They stand out for their great structure and persistent tannins, making them perfect accompaniments to red meats and traditional Portuguese dishes. Served between 16º and 18ºC, they reveal their splendor in every sip.

Douro white wines, whether dry or aged, surprise with their refreshing aromas of citrus and flowers, as well as their balance and complexity on the palate. Ideal with fish, salads, or simply as an aperitif, they are best enjoyed at temperatures between 8º and 12ºC.

Finally, rosé wines, with their attractive color and youthful fruit aromas, offer a fresh and versatile experience that pairs perfectly with appetizers and Asian cuisine. Consumed young and served slightly chilled between 10 and 12°C, they delight with their smoothness and sweetness.

In addition to these, the Douro also offers other lesser-known but equally fascinating gems, such as Moscatel del Douro, Espumoso del Douro (VEQPRD), and the new wine, each with its own unique history and character.
